Local Democracy Week 2006 took place from 16 - 20 October 2006 and Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council supported this event by organising a series of events for young people which included:
- Young Person's Question Time event
- Work Shadowing Day
- Supporting school council week in a local Primary Schools
Additional activities take place throughout the year.
The Local Democracy Campaign aims to:
- make councils more relevant and useful to young people
- encourage young people to 'take part take power'
- make Local Democracy Week bigger and better than before
- increase councillor involvement in citizenship teaching in schools
- get councils to devolve power, wherever appropriate, to local people
Look out for Local Democracy Week 2007 which usually takes place during October.
